A Growing Crisis for Children

Lack of nutrients during the developmental stage of life can lead to lifelong setbacks for children. Around the world today, millions are malnourished.

In some areas of East Africa, the demand for aid, including nutritional care, outpaces the supply. The result? An ever-growing number of children at risk of severe hunger. Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya alone report seven million children currently on the verge of starvation.

Building a Better Future Together

The IRC reduces child hunger through several programs, including training parents and community health volunteers to assess and prevent child malnutrition.

Cash relief has been an effective tool to provide immediate assistance to vulnerable populations, as has the restoration of clean water, which prevents illness from spreading. The IRC has also established mobile health teams to provide health care and malnutrition care in remote areas.

The IRC calls on world leaders to join us in our mission to provide water, case relief and health care to children put at risk by hunger crises.

Every child deserves food. Every child deserves a chance to thrive.
